The Department of Posts comes under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.


Shri.Kapil Sibal is the Minister for Communications and Information Technology.

Shri.Sachin Pilot and Shri.Gurudas Kamat, Hon. Minister of State for Communications & Information Technology.

Ms. Radhika Doraiswamy is the Secretary (Posts) to Govt. of India as well as Director General, Department of Posts and the Chairman of the Postal Services Board.

Karnataka Postal Circle Organisation is headed by Chief Postmaster General.
Ms. Yesodhara Menon is the present Chief Postmaster General.

There are three Regions namely Bangalore Region, North Karnataka Region and South Karnataka Region.

Bangalore Region is under the control of Chief Postmaster General.
Both North Karnataka Region and South Karnataka Region are headed by each Postmaster Generals.

There is a Business Development Cell headed by Postmaster General in the O/o Chief Postmaster General, Karnataka Circle, Bangalore. This cell coordinates Business Development activities of the Circle.

Bangalore Region has two Director of Postal Services, One for (Hq & Mktg) and the other for (Mail Business Operations). North Karnataka Region and South Karnataka Region have one Director of Postal Services.

Karnataka Postal Circle came into existence from 1st April 1960. It covers whole of Karnataka State. It has 27 Revenue Districts with area of 1.92 Lakhs Sq. Kms and population of 5.28 Crores.

There are 31 Postal Divisions, 3 Railway Mail Service Divisions, 3 Postal Stores Depot, 1 Circle Stamp Depot at Bangalore, 1 Mail Motor Service at Bangalore in the Circle. In all there are 9826 Post Offices which are categorised as below.

59 Head Post Offices, 42 Mukhya Dak Ghars, 1686 Departmental Sub Post Offices, 35 Grameena Dak Sewa Sub Offices and 8004 Grameen Dak Sewa Branch Offices. Each Post Office serves 19.49 Sq. Kms and 5360 population

Night Post Offices: Bangalore GPO, Belgaum, Davangere, Mysore, Hubli & Hampankatta
