ePost Service is launched on 30th January 2004 nationwide. ePost service enables people to send and receive messages or scanned images through email from Post Offices in the country. For the first time in the country, people who would not normally have access to internet would be able to send and receive email messages without possessing an email id thereby bridging the digital divide in the arena of public communication systems. The advent of ePost is a turning point in the transformation of the Department of Posts into a modern, technology driven provider of communication services to the people of India.
Tariff for sending ePost messages by Paid users using pre-paid cards will be @ Rs 6- per page of the message.
Bulk discount will also be applicable over these rates, if the messages more than 50 pages or more or a single page message is sent to 50or more recipients. These rates will be effective from 1st January 2008.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ON ePost
Q1. Can messages be sent to foreign countries also for delivery through Postman?
Ans: No.
Q2. In case of non-availability of the addressee at the given address or refusal to take delivery of the message, what will be the disposal of the letter. Will any intimation be given to the sender?
Ans: The undelivered ePost message will be physically returned back to the sender by unregistered post.
Q3. Can a sender who does not have access to Internet send message to e-mail address of a recipient?
Ans: Yes, the sender can book ePost message at ePost centre for transmission to the e-mail address of a recipient.
Q4. How much time will it take to deliver the ePost message?
Ans: ePost messages will be transmitted immediately to the nearest ePost centre. The destination ePost message will be delivered by the Postman as unregistered mail as he goes on his beat. There is no time bound delivery.
Q5. If prepaid card is not fully used, is there a provision to get refund of balance amount?
Ans: No.
Q6. Will sender be given a receipt on booking an ePost message at Post Office counter?
Ans: Yes.
Q7. If a prepaid user forgets his user ID or password?
Ans: User can contact technical help desk at website http://indiapost.nic.in. He will be assigned a new user ID and Password.
Q8. Will any compensation be given in case the sender reports delay in delivery or non deliveryof ePost message?
Ans: No.
Q9. Whether ePost message can be delivered at window of receiving Post Office?
Ans: Yes.
